Alcon Southeast Manufacturing Expansion

Alcon Vision SE Expansion

Contractor: EC Build
Architect: EwingCole
Location: Johns Creek, Georgia
Tons:  305 tons of structural steel

This will be Steel, LLC’s third project for Alcon, a contact lens manufacturer, over the past three years. Our latest project in early 2021 consisted of adding stairs, platforms, and railings for the two tanks at the South Tank Farm (STF).

This major roof platform (approx. 7,000 SF) was added which provided 2 RTO systems. Steel, LLC provided the steel for 2-floor levels that had a mix of concrete on metal deck, galvanized grating, and fiberglass grating around several tanks in what was referred to as ATF (Aqueous Tank Farm) building. The façade had CMU and brick, and there was a good bit of coordination between various trades to ensure that all the parts matched.

With the success of the earlier platform, Alcon will be adding one more platform to its Southeast expansion. In our current project, taking effect in late 2021, Steel, LLC will be working in conjunction with Statesboro Erection, Ewing Cole, and EC Build to extend the workable lab space by adding an additional warehouse measuring over 25,000 SF to the existing building for Alcon. By extending their building footprint they will be able to add additional production lines, hire more employees, and make a direct impact on the economy in Johns Creek, GA.
