Steel, LLC began as a small steel subsidiary company in Virginia in 1947. As US commerce has expanded and the population has grown over the last 70 years, Steel has helped change America’s skyline. Today, we have a mix of talented steel construction experts ready to make our projects a success and, as we begin 2018, our team looks forward to designing and executing even the most challenging of projects.
2017 Project Highlights
Steel, LLC consistently offers high standards, precision products and guaranteed strength and durability in even the most challenging environments. Our inventiveness, dedication, and expertise can be seen in our wide variety of projects. Here are a few of the project highlights from 2017:
Bethesda Police Station, Bethesda, MD
The building will serve as a replacement for the original station constructed in 1961. The new 38,000 square foot building will stand four stories tall. Steel, LLC provided structural steel that serves as the frame for the new structure. The station includes a secure, gated entrance for police officers and a meeting room open to the public, two features the previous station did not include.
Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC
The eight-story, 430,000-square-foot museum located three blocks from the U.S. Capitol opened in December 2017. Steel, LLC’s scope of work included the fabrication of architecturally exposed structural steel for the Biblical Garden roof terrace trellis and galvanized trellis roof framing. Also, structural steel floor framing from the existing structure will be implemented with a new curved curtain wall.
Navy Federal Credit Union Campus, Pensacola, FL
This phase of the Campus expansion consists of two six-story office buildings and one four-story amenities building featuring cafes and a fitness center. This project required heavy structural steel framing with a complex steel system for supporting architectural precast concrete. The structure of the buildings’ frames was designed to withstand hurricane-force winds, guaranteeing their structural integrity for decades to come.
Nellis Air Force Base F-35 Maintenance Hangar
Steel, LLC provided 318 tons of structural steel for the construction of the F-35 maintenance hangar and office space. This hangar replaces two existing structures to maintain F-35s and will be used to educate personnel on maintenance procedures for the aircraft. The braced-frame steel structure with roof framing consists of custom fabricated long span trusses allowing for 22,000 square feet of clear hangar space with no columns. Main roof trusses are 92’ long x 12’ deep at midspan and taper down to 5’-0” deep at the supports.
Potomac Waterfront Wharf Project, Washington, DC
This 19-acre mixed-use development includes two residential buildings, a Class-A office building, a yacht club, two parks, and a parking garage as part of a $457 million project on the Southwest Waterfront in Washington, DC. Steel, LLC’s fabricated and erected the structural steel for the large roof trusses and complex structural framing for elevated balcony seating in Parcel Two. Steel also shipped in 309 tons of structural steel to erect a pier that sits out over the Potomac River. To build the structure, we loaded the steel onto a barge and then erected the Pier in place.
