Founded in 1947, Steel, LLC has built hundreds of structures over the years. Having been a leader in the industry for decades, we have worked on many different projects including power plants, hotels, parking decks, aviation structures and so much more. Being based in Scottdale, Georgia, there is a special pride when it comes to developing and supporting projects in our own backyard. Leaving a stamp on our local communities with quality work that directly impacts the lives of our neighbors carries a special meaning for the Steel, LLC family.

Here is a look at what we’ve been working on in our neck of the woods:

The Nathan Deal Judicial Center in Atlanta, GA
Location: 330 Capitol Avenue SE, Atlanta

This judicial complex will be located in downtown Atlanta near the Capitol Building. Named for Governor Nathan Deal, a former judge himself, who has appointed more than 100 jurists to the bench – including most of the judges on Georgia’s top courts. The building will stand where the Georgia Archives Building once was and includes a four-story atrium with windows overlooking the capital. The complex, which is set to cost around $110 million, is set to open in 2019 and will use approximately 192 tons of structural steel upon its completion.

Zoo Atlanta Grand New View: Savanna Hall and Elephant Barn in Atlanta, Georgia
Location: 800 Cherokee Avenue SE, Atlanta

This is perhaps Zoo Atlanta’s most adventurous expansion project since opening its doors in the 1980’s. The project will significantly expand the habitat for elephants and other African wildlife and will renovate the building that once housed the Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum. Known as the Grand New View, the project includes renovating the Cyclorama building to serve as an exciting new event space called Savanna Hall. It will overlook the new elephant barn and exhibit area. There will also be an administrative center offering stunning views of the newly-expanded exhibit. There will be approximately 361 tons of structural steel used on this project.

Home Depot Backyard Pedestrian Bridge & Deck
Location: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta

This 11-acre green space in the center of Downtown Atlanta features a pedestrian bridge and escalator for fans to enjoy easy access to the Mercedes-Benz stadium for games, concerts, and community events. The Home Depot Backyard is a new playground for Atlanta residents and visitors alike, enriching the local community with events including tailgating and more. Even on non-game days and weekends, this space will offer classes and programs for everyone to enjoy A 35-foot mirrored soccer ball sculpture is the centerpiece of this fun and exciting design plus the convenient bridges and ramps offer multiple entry points for guests of all abilities to enjoy the Home Depot Backyard. Approximately 62 tons of steel was used on this project.

Bellwood Quarry City of Atlanta Water Treatment Facility
Location: Westside Park at Bellwood Quarry

Once completed, this water treatment facility will provide a 2-billion gallon reservoir housing a 30-day supply of emergency drinking water for all of Atlanta. The 280-acre project will also feature recreation spaces, playgrounds, walking trails and connections to the much-loved Atlanta Beltline Westside Trail. Steel, LLC supplied 637 tons of  100% galvanized steel to build the facilities pump house. The facility is scheduled to be up and running for 2019 with extensive development of the area to follow in the coming years.

At Steel, LLC, southern hospitality meets industry leader status. We pride ourselves on having the strength, resources, and know-how of a large national steel manufacturer while paying careful attention to detail and maintaining the responsiveness that you’d expect from a smaller company. These are skills that we are pleased to hone in our own backyard.
